Advanced, Comprehensive Hematology Care for Blood Disorders in Central Jersey
Hematological problems — disorders and diseases of the blood — can impact your life in a number of ways. These conditions affect the production of blood, including blood cells, blood proteins and the mechanisms of blood clotting. As a result, they can cause fatigue, weakness, recurrent fever and infections, shortness of breath, headaches, abnormal bruising and bleeding, and excessive blood clotting, which can be very dangerous.
At RCCA’s Central Jersey Division, our physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners provide the same skill, knowledge and comprehensive care for people with hematological conditions as for those with cancer. In addition to the compassion and commitment that are the hallmarks of our care, our specialists have the expertise and capabilities to diagnose, treat and manage your blood disorder… in a way that’s customized to your individual needs.
Complete, experienced care for your blood-related condition.
Blood disorders we treat here at RCCA-CJD include:
- Clotting disorders – factor deficiencies, von Willebrand disease
- Platelet disorders, including idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP)
- Myelodysplastic syndrome
- Acute and chronic leukemia
Advanced, comprehensive testing for accurate, complete diagnoses.
Providing the right care for your blood disorder begins with a complete and accurate diagnosis. RCCA-CJD works to understand the exact nature and extent of your problem with comprehensive diagnostics. This includes blood tests, many of which we can perform in our own laboratories, providing results in just minutes. Other tests are possible and even likely, including bone-marrow aspirations or biopsies and highly specialized blood tests. As experienced hematologists, our doctors have a deep understanding of hematologic diagnosis and testing, which continues throughout treatment.
Treating and managing blood diseases with expertise and vigilance.
In most cases, treatment for blood disorders consists of medications, administered either orally or intravenously (IV). Our doctors develop your treatment plan based on their expert knowledge of these medicines in the context of the unique results of your testing. Each treatment plan is also reviewed carefully by our in-house pharmacist — an experienced doctor of pharmacy — for safety and effectiveness. Medications are conveniently available through our in-house pharmacies, though some may need to be ordered from specialty pharmacies.
Of course, follow-up testing is a normal part of hematology care, as RCCA-CJD doctors, physician assistants and nurse practitioners need to monitor treatment. Through our Coumadin (Warfarin) program, for example, we monitor blood clotting on a regular basis to determine appropriate dosage of anticoagulant medications. Some medications may need to be monitored through blood tests for potential effects on the body.
