We understand that a cancer diagnosis can feel overwhelming. The emotions that come with the word “cancer” range from disbelief to unwavering hope and we are here to support you through every step, and feeling, of the process. At RCCA Central Jersey, we have built a team to support you from your first appointment forward. It all starts with a Patient Navigator, a Licensed Practical Nurse, who acts as a listening ear, sounding board, and internal support system throughout your cancer diagnosis and treatment.

What do Patient Navigators do?

In the most basic terms, Patient Navigators help you “navigate” all aspects of your journey as a patient with RCCA-NJ.  They assist with appointments, connect you with your doctor, answer questions, connect you to the right contact for medical or billing inquiries, and ease worries.

Patient Navigators also:

  • Provide essential resources and services to further assist you on your treatment journey.
  • Connect and communicate with your doctors and health care providers.
  • Act as a liaison between you and the medical team.
  • Schedule appointments and procedures.
  • Talk you through your test results.

Because Patient Navigators are LPNs that are well versed in their roles, they provide compassionate and skilled care through all stages of your diagnosis.

When do I meet my Patient Navigator?

During your first interaction with RCCA you are introduced to your Patient Navigator. They walk you through the new patient process, via a personal phone call, and make sure all of your needs are met before your initial appointment. From there, your Patient Navigator remains the same through your entire journey with RCCA. At your first appointment you can ask any questions you may have about your treatment plan. They will act as your direct line of communication throughout, no matter the length of your personal journey.

If you had to describe a Patient Navigator in a few words, what would they be?

Compassionate. Empathetic. Respectful. Attentive.

RCCA Patient Navigators are shining examples of how we work to achieve our core mission to provide expert, compassionate and dedicated cancer and hematology care. We believe in creating a relationship that goes beyond a doctor-patient expectation. Our Patient Navigators provide a meaningful connection with each of their patients to ease their path throughout their cancer journey. By attending to your individual needs, the Patient Navigators at RCCA provide the support you need as you navigate this new chapter.

Is there an extra cost for a Patient Navigator?

Absolutely not. We believe that Patient Navigators should be part of a standard of care here at RCCA.  We want to make your experience as seamless as possible and believe that by connecting you with a Patient Navigator, we can provide exceptional service throughout your cancer treatment process.

How do I reach out to my Patient Navigator if I have questions?

On your first call with your Patient Navigator, they will provide you with their contact details so that you can easily communicate with them throughout your journey with any questions, comments or concerns. You can reach your Patient Navigator directly by phone, e-mail or online request.
