QOPI® Certification: Astera Cancer Care is Recognized for Providing Outstanding Cancer Care.
In cancer care, quality is essential. But what is “quality cancer care”? More specifically, how does your cancer-care team measure up against the national standards?
At Astera Cancer Care, we are certified through the QOPI® Certification Program, LLC (QCP®), an affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). ASCO’s Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) Certification Program is a program that evaluates cancer care practices on a variety of quality metrics and promotes excellence in cancer care. And Astera Cancer Care measures up.
One of four NJ cancer practices with ASCO’s quality certification.
To achieve QCP® Certfication, Astera Cancer Care participated in the QOPI program, a voluntary self-assessment and improvement program launched by ASCO in 2010. Astera Cancer Care then applied for QOPI Certification and went on to meet or exceed a benchmark score on metrics that compared Astera Cancer Care’s quality of care against the national standards. In New Jersey, Astera Cancer Care is one of only four practices to have achieved ASCO’s three-year QOPI Certification, first earning it in 2013. Astera Cancer Care has since been QOPI-recertified twice, in 2016 and 2019.
“It’s a great honor to receive this certification,” said Dr. Bruno Fang, managing partner for Astera Cancer Care. “We believe excellence is an ongoing commitment… and an obligation for any oncology practice. Our goal is to always provide the highest-quality care to the Central Jersey community, and in all the ways that matter. QOPI Certification was an objective that helped us be better, and it will continue to challenge us to improve, evolve and offer excellent care,” added Dr. Fang.
QCP: Helping improve the quality of cancer care.
In 2010, ASCO launched the QOPI Certification Program as a means of finding out whether medical oncology (and hematology/oncology) practices truly demonstrate a commitment to excellence. Both QOPI and QCP are dedicated to quality improvement through innovative programs that help practices create a culture self-examination and continuous improvement. QOPI also provides practices with the standards and metrics as well as the means of reliably collecting data about their own quality.
